Six September Favourites

Hey all,

I'm going to be blogging about my monthly favourites each month, and I am trying to stick to 6 items per month (it is EXTREMELY difficult!). When I first compiled my list it was very long, and I just looked at it and realised that none of you are going to want to read that much! My favourite products are generally products that I reach for a lot during the month and find myself using more than everything else. These aren't full reviews of each product, but I will be reviewing them all soon, and I will link to reviews I have already written.

One, two, three...Enjoy!

Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation

Definitely my new HG foundation! I have been reaching for it so often this month, and am absolutely in love with it. It has medium-full buildable coverage, and makes my skin look flawless and radiant! I have also found that the quality of my skin in general has improved since I started using this foundation more - definitely a bonus! Read my review here.

I love my NYX eyeshadows as they are so pigmented, long lasting, and have a wide range of shades to choose from. Absolutely amazing for the price! Two NYX eyeshadows made it onto my favourites list for this month.

NYX Eyeshadow in Gunmetal

Absolutely gorgeous shade, it is so hard to explain just how beautiful it is without you all seeing it up close yourselves. Gorgeous dark silver metallic shade, with lighter silver shimmer particles. Catches the light beautifully, and is great for a smoky eye or a more dramatic look!

NYX Eyeshadow in Kiwi

Beautiful bright, light green, with just the right amount of shimmer. Green is big this season, which I am suer excited about as it is one of my favourite colours to use!

E.l.f. Cream Eyeliner - Plum Purple

Absolutely gorgeous cream eyeliner, especially for the price! It goes on smoothly and without any hassle, is long lasting, and super pigmented! I'm definitely going to build my colour collection in the months to come, especially since I have been using coloured eye liners more and more!

e.l.f Shimmering Facial Whip in Golden Peach

My go to highlight for this month.

MAC Cremesheen Glass in Looks Like Sin

This was a limited edition from the Semi-Precious Collection, and I absolutely adore it. I wore it a lot this month, especially for darker looks or when I was heading out at night. I think you can still buy it from MAC official websites, and you would be able to find it on eBay.
I hope that you all enjoyed reading a little about my monthly favourites, and I will make sure that I put a favourite list up each month! Make sure you let me know what your favourites are this month :)

Hope you all have a great day! xx

Haul 28/09/11 - Reviews to Come!

Hey all,

I was going to start making YouTube videos today, but alas, my plans are foiled! It is another gloomy day in sunny old brisbane, and the lighting is just all wrong. So, before I settle down and watch Daria with the cat, I thought that I would share my recent haul purchases with you all! Don't worry, I will review most of these products soon!

Enjoy!

First I went to Cosmetics Fragrance Direct (click on the link for locations near you). I usually pick up more stuff than I did this time when I was there, but I just wasn't feeling it! They do usually have great bargains though!

Natio Fruit Gloss (for the life of me I can't find a shade number or name on the tube)

MOR Jasmine Tea Body Cream (smells so very good!)

Priceline - one of the happiest places on earth! Never mind Disneyland!

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 310
(It is a little light, but the next shade down was a little too dark - NC40/42)

Rimmel Vinyl Gloss in 270 Fashion Icon

Rimmel Nail Polish in 610 Pompous & 045 Misty Jade

Almay Get Up & Grow Mascara in Blackest Black

I also picked up a lot of goodies from SAVVY by DB

Cool & Warm 9 Shade Eyeshadow Palettes

4 Eyeshadow Duos: Olive Twist, Purple Haze, Starry Night & Bluegrass

2 Mono Eyeshadows: Grape & Pearl

And a Mineral Blend Pressed Eyeshadow in Mauve

Also picked up some Yes to Carrots skincare which is made with natural ingredients, and new to Australia! (I will definitely be reviewing it soon as I am in love with it already).

Picked up some NYX goodies from Groove - which is the only place I know of that stocks NYX in Brisbane (other than purchasing online).

NYX Single Eyeshadow in Mellow Yellow

4 NYX Eye/Eyebrow Pencils: Lavender Glitter, Gold Glitter, Black Glitter & Acid Green

2 Candy Glitter Liners: Green & Gold

NYX Girls Nail Polish in Sour Lime

As you can see, I was a busy little bumblebee! I also picked up some shoes, a couple of necklaces and a dress. But if I also talked about my non-make up related products, we would be here all day!

Hope you all have a great day! xx

(Sorry for the bad lighting on the pictures! As I mentioned earlier, it is a horribly gloomy day :( )

Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation Review

Hey all,

It's an awful gloomy day here in the usually sunny Brisbane, so I thought that I would do some reviewing! I am on the hunt for absolutely perfect skin (aren't we all?) and have been trying a lot of foundations lately. I seem to be reaching for my Lancome Teint Miracle bottle almost all the time, and I am absolutely loving it.

It is a relatively new foundation by Lancome, and was launched after 10 years of in-depth research. Lancome calls it a 'natural light creator - bare skin perfection', and I must say that they are not lying; this foundation is short of amazing! It contains 40% water, and particles not found in any other foundations on the market. Scientifically, it is pretty damn cool, but enough about that.

What I Love
- It is good for your skin: It is water based, oil free, non-comedogenic and dermatologically tested. It also has rose extract which soothes the skin!
- SPF 15
- It blends seamlessly into the skin.
- Medium-full coverage.
- Looks natural; it has a gorgeous finish - not too shiny, but not matte.
- Makes the skin look radiant. All I can say is that the patented ingredients Lancome is talking about really work!
- A little also goes a long way, which means it will last longer than some other foundations as well.
- It has a subtle floral fragrance and smells absolutely divine.
- The packaging is elegant and classy, and looks wonderful sitting on top of the dresser.

I'm leaving out the cons section, as there is honestly nothing I do not love about this foundation!

Prices
Australia: $68 from Myer or David Jones
US: $37

This is definitely my new HG foundation, and I adore it to say the least. I am certain I will repurchase it for years to come!

For reference: I am a NC40/42 and my Teint Miracle shade is 04.

Hope you all have a great day! xx

Nail Polish of the Month: Rimmel 60 Seconds in 285 Style Hunter

Hey all,

I am currently stuck at home because I am horribly ill, and I just painted my nails to cheer myself up a little. Which gave me a great idea!

Introducing...the nail polish of the month segment of my blog! Ta-dah! Nail polish is one of those items that I always find myself buying, especially if it is on sale. That being the case, it makes perfect sense to share my nail polish favourites with you all!

My nails are generally a new colour every week, sometimes more frequently (I like to mix it up a little), but I am only going to introduce a favourite shade of mine once a month for two reasons. Firstly, some shades that I adore I find myself using over and over again, and secondly, some shades I will use once and forget about!

Anyway, here goes.

Rimmel 60 Seconds: 285 Style Hunter

About the Shade

- Gorgeous muted purple, pink shade.
- Feminine and elegant.
- No shimmer.

I absolutely adore this shade! Purple is my favourite colour and this shade is just the perfect mix of purple and pink. Looking at it honestly just cheers up my day! I have worn it twice this month already.

About the Formulation

I must say that Rimmel's 60 Seconds nail polish is one of my favourite drug store formulations. It goes on smoothly, and looks amazing after two coats. It's usually super shiny/glossy (you know what I mean!). I also love the brush, Rimmel states it as an 'Xpress Brush - for 1 sec application'. Although it does take a little bit longer than one second, the brush is thicker and wider than most other brushes out there, which makes for super quick and mess free application!

Price: $7.95 - from Priceline, Target, Big W, K-Mart and pharmacies/drug stores across Australia. Pretty cheap I say!

Hope you all have a great day! xx

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation Review

Hey all,

I decided I would give the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation a try as it is a favourite of one of my all time favourite beauty bloggers/youTubers emilynoel83 from Beauty Broadcast. I couldn't find my shade (400 - Natural Beige) in any of the Priceline stores near me, so I bought it off eBay and much to my excitement - it arrived this morning!

It only took me about 5 mins after I opened it to try it out, and I must say that so far I am loving it. It goes on smoothly (with a primer), is thankfully a great match for my NC40/42 skin tone, and sufficiently covered all blemishes and imperfections. It is not greasy or oily, and with a little bit of setting powder on the top there is no shine to be seen. It is also enriched with skin loving minerals, yippie!

Rimmel claims that it is transfer resistant, and from what I can tell, it is! I can't say much for the staying power yet as I only put it on about 30 mins ago, but I will put an edit in this post about that later.

What I Love
- Goes on smoothly
- Covers imperfections and blemishes
- Matches my skin tone
- Not oily or greasy
- Didn't oxidise
- Transfer resistant
- Mineral enriched
- Packaging - looks great, and is easy to store and transport
- EDIT - It does last absolutely all day!

What I Am Not So Crazy About
- Shade range, or lack of.
- Hard to find the darker shades (Had to buy mine overseas on eBay)

Price: $7.89 (off eBay)

XLNT Eyeshadow Rave & Review

Hey all,

This is a product rave of epic proportions because I absolutely adore the eyeshadow from this brand. I found this brand at my local Cosmetics Fragrance Direct store a couple of months ago and purchased one of their eyeshadow trios, or 'tr-eyes' as they call them. I wasn't expecting much at all because of the low cost ($2!!), but I must say its hard to put into words just how impressed I am. I now have their entire eyeshadow collection!

For $2 a pop these eyeshadows are short of amazing, with a primer they have amazing pigmentation and staying power. They are also a perfect harmony between matte and shimmer. I only wish that they had a wider range of shades, but I am hoping that they expand their collection in the future.

XLNT has three eyeshadow trios, and four singles from what I have found and they are all a ridiculously low $2 each. The brand also has eyeliner and lipliner pencils, lipstick, mascara and foundation; I haven't tried any of these other products yet, but I will try and review them in the near future.

As far as I know, the brand XLNT can only be purchased at Cosmetics Fragrance Direct within Australia, and the website link above has store locations. I'm always visiting Cosmetics Fragrance Direct and they have some great bargains, so it is definitely worth checking them out!

What I Love
- Super cheap at $2 an eyeshadow!!!
- Highly pigmented
- Long lasting
- Not too shimmery

Cons
- Limited shade range

Packaging (Just so you know what to look out for!)

Single Eyeshadow's

Shades: Taupe, Hazelnut, Shimmer Fudge & Opal Dusk

Trios or 'Tr-eyes'

Shades: Blue-i's, Green-i's & Brown-i's (I personally think that the trio shades look good with ALL eye colours)

Hope you all have a great day! xx

Covergirl Outlast Lipstain Review

Hey all,

It seems that lipstain's are currently all the rave, and I can see why. It is a great concept, colour and staying power that can be drawn on like a pencil - how convenient! In general, I am a fan of lipstain's and have tried a few from various brands - some good, and others, not so much.

I'd been wanting to try out Covergirl's outlast lipstain for a while and picked one up from my local priceline (drugstore). I'd heard a couple of bad reviews and some good ones as well, so I was interested to see what I would think. My final verdict is that I do quite like them, and think they are a nifty little product. I know have three and plan to buy more soon!

Reason Why I Like It
- Good range of colours.
- Colours are vivid (especially for a lipstain).
- Super easy to apply to your lips.
- Easy to store both at home & on the go.
- Great staying power.
- I've had them for just over a month and they haven't dried out
- They have a nice smell.

Things I'm Not So Crazy About
- They do dry my lips out a little.
- The colours on the packaging can be deceiving (colours that seem light, turn out darker etc).

I generally put a layer of gloss over the top, which gives the lips a lovely shine & makes the colours pop a  little but more.

Overall, I think that they are great for a lipstain! They aren't too expensive, can be found in most stores and there is a colour to suit everyone. But best of all, they do what they promise to do!

I have 3 shades: 415 - Teasing Blush, 420 - Sassy Mauve & 435 - Flirty Nude.

Product Rave: Face of Australia Strengthening Nail Polish Remover

Hey all,

One day I was in a rush and realised that my chipped, grubby remnants of fire engine red nail polish desperately needed to be removed. So, I purchased the first polish remover I came across - Face of Australia's Strengthening Nail Polish Remover.

And...guess what? I absolutely adore it! It is definitely going to be my new HG of nail polish removers.

Reasons I Love It
- A little goes a long way
- It doesn't smell too strong/doesn't have that horrible chemical odour
- I feel that my nails are actually stronger since beginning to use it
- The product & brand is against animal testing!
- It's cheap - at $3.99

This product can be purchased wherever FOA is stocked - Big W, Target, K-mart & Priceline (that I know of).

Hope you all have a great day! x

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils Review & Swatches

Hey all,

I have just begun to buy products from NYX after hearing many raving reviews on youtube, and I thought I would try out these Jumbo Eye Pencils! I bought six to begin with, and I loved them so much that I now have 23, which I think is almost the entire collection!

I absolutely love these pencils, and use them in my looks just about every day. They have a great colour payoff, with an opaque consistency. They are creamy, glide on smoothly, and with a primer are long lasting. I usually use them as a base with a powder shadow on top to complete the look.

They retail for about $6.50 in Australia & $4 in the USA, and can be found at Crush Cosmetics AU.

NYX has provided a wide range of gorgeous shades, which are all highly pigmented.

My Favourite Shades
- Iced Mocha: Which I use as a base for a neutral eye.
- Slate: Great for a smokey eye.
- Pots & Pans: I use this shade as a base for silver looks.
- Lime: Because I love greens on my eyes & this shade just 'pops'.
- Purple Velvet: Beautiful deep purple that would suit anyone.
- Electric Blue: So bright & vivid!
- Rust: Great for bronze looks.
- Pure Gold: Gorgeous shimmery gold.
- Milk: Great in the inner corners of the eye to brighten the whole look up.

My Makeup Story Tag - First Post!

Hey All,

So this is my first ever blog post - how exciting! I have been wanting to start this blog for a long time now, but found myself wondering how on earth I should begin? So I decided to take inspiration from a YouTube video and answer some questions about my 'Makeup Story', or really just what helped create the relationship I have with makeup today.

I hope you enjoy reading this, and hope that you learn a thing or two about me!

10 Questions - Let's Go!
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I constantly used to make myself look like a clown when I was a young little thing, and was always getting into my mother's makeup (which she NEVER used, I obviously didn't want it to go to waste), but I started using my own makeup products when I was 13 and was starting high school for the first time. I guess the beginning of high school gave me an excuse to pretty myself up a little. At that age I was just using tinted moisturiser, mascara and a bit of lip balm. I started experimenting with more products and more colours when I was about 15 - and that is when the love affair began!
2. How did you get into makeup?
I have always been interested in makeup, and since a young age I have always loved staring in awe at all the colours on the shelves. I just loved the way makeup brought out my creative side, and found it a great way to express myself and try new things.
3. What are some of your favourite brands?
My oh my, that is a hard question.
Drugstore/Cheaper Brands
NYX - I have tried so many nyx products and absolutely love most of them. I especially adore their eyeshadow shades, but more on that later!
e.l.f - Amazing quality for the price, and I think a lot of their products are just fabulous. Only problem is that living in Australia, I have to buy most of their things online.
Revlon - Good experiences with most of their products.
CoverGirl - I adore their eyeshadows, this was also one of the first brands I ever used!
High End Brands
MAC - I do love my mac, especially the eyeshadow colours, and the blushes! It was also one of the first places I found foundation that was a perfect match for my skin tone NC40-42 (depending on the season).
Smashbox - Love most of the products they have!
Bobbi Brown - Correctors are a life saver, and they have some great natural colours.
Too Faced - Has the most adorable packaging - I know, I am a marketers dream!
4. What does makeup mean to you?
It really is hard to put it into words, it means a lot to me. It has given me confidence that I never used to have as a child. It also has the ability to calm me down when I am angry, or cheer me up when I am in a bad mood. It really does have a big place in my life.
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Concealer - to get rid of all those pesky imperfections as well as the under eye circles I always have!
Mascara - so I don't look half dead.
Eyeshadow - I just can't live without a little colour!
Lip Balm/Lipgloss/Lipstick - my lips are always dry!
6. What is your favourite thing about makeup?
The creativity it provides!
7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?
I think whether a brand is expensive or cheap, it always has hits and misses. Sure, I love some high end products and really recommend a few. But on the other hand, some of my favourite makeup is cheaper. Overall, I think you can definitely achieve all the looks you want with cheaper makeup! Who doesn't love a bargain?!
8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
Most importantly, enjoy yourself! And don't feel as though you need to follow all the 'rules'!
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Visible lip liner!
10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
I adore it! It is half the reason I decided to start this blog. I have found so many youtubers that are such inspirations!

Thank you for taking the time to read through this, and hopefully you learnt some interesting things about me without being too bored in the process!

Hope you have a great day & I promise lots of posts to come! xx
